As the technology develops more and more regarding the world of digital audio, audio CDs tend to become less and less popular. Maybe it's because they are fragile and a single scratch on the disc's surface could ruin a really good music album. Or because the number of tracks that can be stored on an audio CD is very limited. Still, there are numerous media players that can play audio CDs, but these tend to be replaced by MP3 devices or even flash memory players. Let's suppose you have a huge audio CD collection you gathered over time and you want to convert it to a universal recognized format, like WAV or MP3. In this case, you could use FreeRip. It' s a software that can convert audio CD tracks into various audio formats, like MP3, WAV and FLAC.

The installation process shouldn't pose any problems. It completes this process fast and takes up little hard disk space. Besides that, every version of Windows is supported for running this application.

The interface is simple and all the options are in the right place, being very easy to find. The user can use the classical menu or the graphical toolbar. After inserting an audio CD, FreeRip will display some information about it, like the artist, the album's name, the year and genre. If the CD doesn't contain this information, it will be automatically downloaded from the program's online CD database. At this point, the user can choose the format for ripping audio tracks. FreeRip allows ripping audio CDs into various audio formats and also choosing quality settings for each one of them. Every audio CD tracks can be played prior to ripping it.

FreeRip allows ripping all the tracks of the album, one by one or just certain tracks. The functionality of the software doesn't limit to ripping audio CDs, as it can also convert various audio formats from one to another.

Pros

It supports a wide range of audio formats and allows each one of them to be configured. It can also convert audio files, not only rip audio CDs. Furthermore, audio CDs without artist and album information can have this information searched in the program's online database.

Cons

Advanced users will want more complex features from this program. FreeRip is a great CD audio ripper and converter which can deal with the majority of audio formats.
